Nico by J.B. Hartnett Blog Tour with Giveaway and Review

When I was a boy, I met a girl.
She didn’t know it then, but…
She changed me.
Now…..I am a man.
A man who is broken by the stories of the women who come to me.
They are my birds with broken wings.
I help them heal, help them to make them strong, so they can fly free.
Lark changed me. Loved Me. Made Me Strong.
With her, I am free.
I write…
To the girl of the past.
To the girl of my present.
And, the girl of my future.
Dear Dish….
**Although Nico is considered part of The Leaves Series, it can be read as a stand alone**

~EXCERPT~

We sat there trying to catch our breath, her small giggle echoing against the foothills when I heard, “You two mind keeping it down now? Son, you know I’m proud you’re a man who can please your woman, but I also have a wife – your mother – who is running around the place turning on every radio and television to full blast because she can’t find her damn headphones,” I heard him chuckle as he walked away, mocking me, “Fuckkkkk,” and laughing his ass off.

~MY REVIEW~

First thing I should say is that this book is part of a series but according to the blurb, can be read as a stand alone. I have to totally agree with that. I have not read the other 2 in the series, Cole and Inky, (links below) as of yet, but they are now on my TBR list. There was only one or two places where I thought I might be missing something. Nothing major, just connections between characters. Those scenes were short and didn't add much to the overall plot of the book so I didn't feel like was missing anything.

This book is told from Nico's point of view which makes this book a different kind of read. Not many are told from his point of view. A lot of time was spent developing Nico. He just doesn't seem to know what he wants out of life. He runs a tattoo shop, drinks, and spends his time in the arms of just about any woman he can. He has developed a special type of customer, woman who have been hurt or abused by the men of their lives.  Just when I got to the point where I was wondering if we were ever going to get to the point, we finally meet Lark and find out she just might be the one to tame him. From that point on, the book moves a lot better.
Nico is hung up on a girl he met when he was just 7 years old.  He met her the night her mother came to their house after being beaten by her husband. They had a connection right away and he was there to help soothe her. The next morning, a couple came to get her and he never saw her again. He doesn't remember her name, only that she had dishwater blond hair so he refers to her as "Dish". She comes up a lot in the story. through out the entire book. He's looking for someone who made him feel like she did that night. Safe, whole, complete. I kept hoping he would find "Dish" so all could be right in the world for him.
Then Lark comes along. Lark is Nico's neighbor and is fresh out of a controlling relationship. She's determined to live her life the way she wants, not be controlled by someone like that again. She and Nico just seem to fit together so well, like they were made for each other.  But he can't seem to shake the feeling of "Dish"...
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It's a perfect love story.

~About the Author~

Julie is a Southern California native, a fan of a really good story (preferably romance with a happily ever after), really good pie (preferably pumpkin) and copious amounts of coffee (preferably Folgers).
She has always enjoyed writing and at one time thought she could be a singer songwriter...the 'writer' part is the one that stuck.
Julie is obsessed with pi...the equation(and the food). She's allergic to cats and cantaloupe and hates mushrooms...so if you ever want to give her a gift, those are out for sure. She currently lives with her own romance hero husband and two boys in Melbourne, Australia.
