My Brother, My Rival Series by Eve Rabi Blog Tour

Banner My Brother My Rival for Tour 2

Book 1

My Brother, My Rival (Book 1) (Cover 10-1-13)Cody Garrett, a former Navy SEAL, has never met a skirt he didn’t fancy. His six-pack, rugged looks and bad boy image ensures a steady stream of hot babes waiting to slip him their phone numbers wherever he goes. So, he is confused when Bridie Barker refuses to go on a date with him.
It’s not like she’s a stunning beauty or something. According to him, her ears are big, she’s well-rounded and she’s not even a D-cup. In spite of her shortcomings, the more she pushes him away, the more he finds himself thinking of her. Twenty-year-old Bridie Barker has control issues. Every detail in her life is planned. Her closet is color-coded and she has an array of storage containers, to ensure that everything is in its correct place. Her whole world is black and white, and grey areas are a no-no.
When she meets the warm and grounded Scott Garrett, she thinks she has found her soul mate. Unfortunately, and to her disappointment, things don’t pan out with Scott. While waiting tables, she has a disastrous run-in with his brother, Wild Boy Cody Garrett, King of Body Shots, who parties every night with a different girl. Even though he’s good to look at and makes her laugh, she turns down his advances as he’s clearly the tag-and-release kind of guy. Besides, she is pretty sure he owns not a single storage container, and she’s certain that his closet is not color-coded.
Problem is, Cody Garrett finds her rejection an aphrodisiac and pursues her.

~My Review~

How good were these books??? Well, let me tell you.  I read BOTH of them in one day. I felt like my eyes were going to pop out, but I just couldn't stop reading. To say these books were addicting is an understatement. Even today, three days later, I am visualizing various parts and thinking that I really need to go back and read them again. It would definitely be worth it.

In book 1, we find out that Bridie has had a rough start to life. She's a currently trying to work herself into a better life, holding down a couple part time jobs. She meets Scott when she accidentally spills coffee on him. They end up talking for a couple hours. She's thought she met the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, the jerk doesn't call. Although let down, she moves on with her life.

Then Cody comes along. A sexy, former Navy SEAL with an ego and attitude to match.  He's definitely the love them and leave 'em kind of guy. Someone Bridie definitely needs to stay away from. As you can figure, Cody and Bridie end up getting together. There were so many times I wanted to smack Cody. Although he's in a relationship, he sometimes acts like he's single and that him interacting with women shouldn't bother Bridie. Life just doesn't work that way.

It doesn't help that Cody comes from money and Bridie from the wrong side of town. The only person that seems to be bothered by that fact is Cody's mother. She pulls quite a few little tricks to try to push Bridie away. Sometimes she's just downright mean and hurtful. Cody should have stood up for her, but he just seems to ignore his mother's antics, which ticked me off. I wanted to see her get what she deserved.

On the day Bridie needs Cody the most, he does the most hurtful thing to her so she runs and ends up in the arms of Scott.  Cody's reaction is immature and childish with lasting consequences for him.

At the end of this book, I was relieved to know that I had the second in the series on my Kindle already. I needed to start it right away.

“Now,” he said, when he surfaced for air, “what the fuck is your problem?”

Before I could answer, he kissed me again, then said, “Don’t answer that. I’m sick of you and your stuck up ways! You’re driving me nuts with your bitching.”

Another kiss, before he spoke again.

“Show me how to act grown up, Bridie. I need your help here. I’m the eldest child in my family and I have a crude sense of entitlement. It’s what gives me confidence to achieve in life, but at the same time, it’s my downfall. It makes me a spoiled son of a bitch, and fuck, I never realized it until now, and baby, I really needed my ass kicked by someone like you.” He kissed me again.
“This ass-kicking, it’s an experience like nothing I have ever felt before. I like it and I hate it. Now, just put your arms around my neck and kiss me like you did before.”

I summoned a glare but when I looked into his blue eyes, my insides turned to mush.

To my disgust, my levelheadedness, my determination to lose him and all Usher’s Burn motivating lyrics did a David Copperfield on me and vanished. Poof!

To my disgust, I put my arms around his neck and matched the intensity of his kisses.

As I kissed him, the bruising inside of me healed and the burning ceased. He was a dose of citrus-flavored antacid to my soul.

“Now, that’s better,” he said between kisses. “Don’t you feel better now that you surrendered to me? Huh? Don’t you? Huh?”

“Shaddup!” I whispered, as I held his face in my hands and kissed him.

“Okay, okay, I’ll shaddup.”

“I don’t wanna be forced into anything,” I said in a meaningful voice. “I’m not into body shots, I don’t do threesomes, I’m old-fashioned in a lot of ways and I tend to go …”

“What?” he frowned. “You mean you don’t want to fuck me in the back seat of my Hummer?”

"What about in an hour?"

Book 2

Years ago, Cody Garrett’s heart was ripped to shreds when Bridie ditched him and married his brother, Scott.

With great difficulty, he moved on and rebuilt his life without her, severing all ties with his brother because of their betrayal.

Now, Scott, his brother, is ill and a threat to his wife and children.

Cody is forced to step in and move them into his house.

Being physically so close to Bridie, and spending time alone with her, brings back a flood of memories, and he finds it a daily struggle to contain his feelings for his brother’s wife.

To Bridie, who likes to put things (and people) in perspective, Cody Garrett was filed under ‘Cheat’ and she too moved on with her life.
But while living with him, she stumbles upon secrets involving Cody and her, that changes everything.
Now, she must fight her feeling for Cody and remain true to her marriage.

~My Review~

First thing I will say is that I am so glad I already had this book on my Kindle when I finished the first one. Although it wasn't a huge cliffhanger, I really needed to know what happened between the three of them.

I couldn't believe this book jumped ahead 5 years. When I started, I wish it had began right where it left off. As I read though, I don't think I missed that much. The author picked the perfect starting point. After 5 years, the relationship between Bridie and Scott had time to develop into something more than it began and you get the feeling that all is well in paradise.

That is until Scott ends up taking a job that keeps him away for a long time (won't give you details here, but I can't imagine having to deal with what he did or being part of the family dealing with it either. My heart goes out to those that have been through these circumstances).  When Scott returns, he's NOT the same man. Bridie wants to be there for him, but can she put herself and her children through that? Through all of it, Cody is the one there to support her.

There is a lot more suspense in this one. A lot more action. Some violence. And a lot more tears, from me. In the end, Bridie gets to be with the one I felt she truly should be with, but the circumstances make me question whether or not they will have their HEA or will guilt drive them apart.

Either way, this is a series you do NOT want to miss.
